The Natural Health and Supplementary Products Bill has passed its second reading and is due to become legislation by 3rd January 2014.
After consulting with analysts, members of the natural health industry, our panel of experts and board of trustees, Health Freedom is now in a position to give you more information to help you draft your response to the Natural Health and Supplementary Products Bill.
A united front from consumers, wanting to preserve their full access to natural health products, is imperative to the success of getting a fair and reasonable regulating authority.
The Natural Health and Supplementary Products Bill is very light on detail. Analysts have described it as a ‘thin’ Bill, which gives very wide powers to whoever is charged with administering it. This is far from what is required to meet what Health Freedom supported in the agreed Joint Industry statement, which was very detailed. Read more here.

June 5 2009: Hamilton Councillors Push for Removal of FluorideThe Waikato Times reported: A group of Hamilton city councillors are pushing for the removal of fluoride from the city's water this time without a referendum. Three years after the city agreed in a public poll to keep fluoridation, a surprise move at a council meeting this week has put the issue back on the agenda. At Wednesday's long-term plan meeting, councillor Dave Macpherson asked to have the possibility of scrapping fluoridation discussed at a meeting on July 1. The move was rejected 9-4 but if he and other councillors can agree on an appropriate timing for a showdown he may have the numbers to get rid of fluoride. Mr Macpherson told councillors that even "blind Freddy" recognised it was a matter of when, not if, and he felt the time had come. "We know quite enough to make a decision now," he said. Read the whole story here: http://www.stuff.co.nz/waikato-times/news/2475642/Fluoride-foes-set-for-new-battle May 4 2009: Gardasil Vaccination Program Meeting With Resistance.The Australian reported that the New Zealand Ministry of Health announced 78 schools refused to participate in the controversial vaccination program of Gardasil saying "the cervical cancer vaccine Gardasil is facing resistance in New Zealand where dozens of schools have refused to take part in the national immunisation program". TVNZ One Breakfast news reported the same morning that the "Controversial Vaccine" had been rejected by 75 schools. However the story was pulled later on in the show and never reappeared on further TVNZ news bulletins that day. Health Freedom NZ wrote to TVNZ news asking for more details on the story and why it was pulled. We received no response. No mention of it appears on their website list of stories for that day. It seems we'll have to rely on The Australian to inform us of what is going on in our own country. Gardasil is the brain child of Merck & Co, the drug company that bought us Vioxx which killed 60,000 people and caused serious adverse reactions in over 100,000 people. April 8 2009: A Memorandum of UnderstandingA Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the Green Party and National on shared policy initiatives. Among them is an agreement to work together to develop a New Zealand based regulatory system for natural health products. Green MP Sue Kedgley will work with the Minister of Health Tony Ryall and Associate Minister Jonathan Coleman to develop a regulatory system that is specific to New Zealand, rather than the trans-Tasman model that had been proposed by the previous Labour led government.
